Peter has had to struggle in the job market and date women for quite some time. Take this Eason Chan, for example. When it comes to finding jobs, Peter doesn’t have much of a background. After meeting June for the first time at the disco, it seems that June’s luck begins to change. It might have been simply a one-night stand in which neither guy cares about the other. Time passes and they start seeing each other again. But for some reason, Peter does not feel strongly attached to the new girl. He doesn’t like that she won’t let him inside her apartment. Finally, she explains that she is capable of seeing the recently deceased. At first she believed that there were cars outside her house waiting for her. But lately they have been in her house too.
Upon learning of June’s hidden truth, Peter is on the verge of standing up for June, and providing her the much needed support. He gets strange strands of vision, the two becoming even close in the process, one of which is blood curdling as a man constantly asks him for his severed head. Nevertheless, since these events have an impact on Peter’s relatives and friends, who live in the material world, he perceives an opportunity to decode the enigmatic visions, the interpretations, and their possible threats.
To an extent, you can consider the text to be that genre fusion to some extent even though the title of Visible Secret makes it clear there is something different from the familiar clichés a great many of people will easily identify therein Builders and the Ghost World definitely Marked Swordsman does not complement. While what begins as more or less the standard story of horror books transformed increasingly and increasingly into a horror story that presented a perspective of a world full of the dead and full of ghosts.
How he describes Peter and June as they move into this world of past memories, and for the most part these memories are not jump scares, there’s a notable exception though. The spirits that she viewed were not viewed as spirits but as a girl named June who Like everyone else the Peter’s Joins this horrible realm and unlike Sandra both are somewhat absent Levi ’s guarded nature makes it hard to make sense of her character and once again debates arise over whether or not the ending was indeed a fitting way to wrap things up.
But the realm of spirits exists in the past as well. The characters and their surroundings become mere fragments of the past, an idea that is subtly incorporated into the plot such as the alteration of Peter’s apartment or the naming of the characters. Ultimately, the characters attempt to grasp the past which is gone forever. At times, this is quite interesting such as the idea that Peter’s parents owned a shop but its present use is a snack bar, other times, as with the just described ending, it simply does not come across well.
To conclude, “Visible Secret” is primarily a horror story with some comedic elements and I would say a big horror. Ann Hui meanders in the direction of uncharted waters for herself with quite casual but narratively meaningful effects but, ultimately, is always too close to the film “Visible Secret” which is in some way an adaptation film.
