The film opens in black and white while deep music is played, a woman can be seen forming some sort of bread dough. Then we hear a cleaner’s clang which eventually shifts the scene to a white shirted man with a deep voice who seems to be watching the audience, and begins talking about the concept of watching. Then, we are informed via a news report, that multiple people have been murdered and thus urged the viewers to remain cautious. We are then introduced to the man carrying the cane. Who befriends a woman, and then goes towards a building that he can hear an ongoing fight, he knocks the door and a husband answers, then he suggests that he is selling ghee.
All and all this movie was completely unexpected, right down to the concept of selling ghee. To begin with, ghee is made from butter, and the last concept of turning a murderer in a saviour highlighted the idea of sight and vision taking the forefront as a part of a Mehta suggestion helper. The presented form instead touches on the problem of domestic violence against women, but more indirectly.
While Mehta’s comments and his approach towards them through the lens of crime is funny, the film has its pitfalls. One of them is the usage of a combination of black and white as well as deep shadows which makes it nearly impossible to follow the action on the screen. This could be an attempt at replicating some aspects of blindness, but it truthfully fails against the director’s intention in that case. Besides, the use of the music which is almost uninterrupted for some time does become irritating and so does the fact that the messages and the narrative are over accentuated over the pictures to be rather annoying.
Acting, on the other hand, is indeed good. Nilesh Brahmbhatt plays a blind man who comes across as strong in terms of looks, movement and speech which is quite convincing and so does Kumud Sukhadiya who plays the role of a wife, effectively conveys her fear in the Short film she plays her character in, while still bringing elements of tension.
Sight does show that Mehta has ideas that are out of the box, all he needs is to work on the way they are portrayed. An increase in the budget together with more time available for the movie would compliment the existing excellent storyline that suffers from a short duration.
