Jacqueline, a native of Liberia, is actively escaping the civil war that is engulfing her nation. The sole provider for her household is a US Army major who’s been tasked to escort Jacqueline Machowski to Pennsylvania. Jackie has Elise her sister but she’s been separated to get her heart checked. Alas, with everything continuing the way it moves Jacqueline has resorted to minimalistic life.

This is where I would like to point out that this particular movie seems strongly based on asylum seekers. The Used seeks to shine light onto the plight of an immigration seeker and most importantly, women. The movie in it’s core is like peeling an onion for Jacqueline filled with shedding layers, each layer full of heartache and new emotions.

As a playwright that heavy emotions ae crucial so that they provide a chance to outsiders to look into the life of an asylum seeker. Its hard to step into an unknown territory, especially when you are a woman. The life of surviving amidst so much chaos is painted beautifully and so deservingly in The Used.

These flashbacks enable Jacqueline to escape her unfortunate life in the present and instead experience two distinct worlds, the UK and Liberia. Jessica’s life in the present become even more unbearable than it actually is. To add Structure and reason, Chen ensures that such characters who moved to shelters during the immigration crisis in Greece are portrayed in a certain light. Currently, she is a clever, smart, tough woman. Jacqueline has suffered from trauma and had a dramatic past and due to it, she is barely managing to survive in the Greek island. She speaks perfect English which is why it is strange to see her only possessive of poor English.

To begin with, Callie’s Turn which portrays the agony of the war alongside a recovery process, does address the plight of refugees and immigrants, but the context within which it takes place makes it ultimately a very hopeful film. We are shown that people in positions of affluence around us do exist, and that the damage we see these individuals go through does not occur in a single instance.

The main aim of Callie Maher is synthesis, and to portray those amalgamations she began her directing career with a diverse set of genres while simultaneously trying her hand at variety of technologies as well. Callie’s immigrants hold international diplomas in medicine, engineering, journalism etc., yet possess no discernible skill or knowledge of the local language.

It truly, repeatedly leaves one wondering, why one man fixes the body while the other one fixes what surrounds the body, do such polar opposites exist. Callie’s Call of duty gives us an insight over how lost and isolated these immigrants feel in a foreign land, trying to fight through the strongest language barrier alongside the towering omnipresence of foreign culture.

Alia is convincing in the role of Callie, a kind-hearted tour guide with an overly functional demeanor.

As a “tiny” film, Griffith’s “Drift” is quite good. Its storyline is intriguing and tangential issues pertaining to immigration are addressed eloquently while fully utilizing the Greek backdrop enhancing Chen’s direction skills.
